D is for:

When working with depression, I focus on creating a supportive approach tailored to my client’s needs. This often involves helping clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, improve emotional regulation, and develop coping strategies through evidence-based techniques. Together, we explore contributing factors—such as stress, past trauma, or lifestyle influences—and work on building routines that support well-being, including sleep, exercise, and social connection. Throughout, I aim to provide a balance of practical tools and emotional support to help clients regain a sense of purpose and control over their lives.

Am I experiencing depression?

When working therapeutically with survivors of domestic abuse, my approach emphasises safety, empowerment, and healing. Ensuring physical and emotional safety is paramount, including discussing practical strategies for maintaining safety if the abuse is ongoing.

Processing the emotional impact of abuse, such as fear, guilt, or shame, while rebuilding self-esteem, a sense of autonomy and addressing the lasting effects of abuse, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD are crucial elements of the therapeutic process.

Throughout the process, I respect the client’s choices and autonomy, avoiding any pressure to make decisions about their situation. By fostering resilience and self-worth, I aim to help clients regain control over their lives and move toward recovery and empowerment.

When working therapeutically with issues related to drugs and alcohol, I focus on understanding that substance use often serves as a coping mechanism. It is a response to deeper emotional pain, trauma, or unmet needs. I work collaboratively with clients to uncover and address these underlying issues.

Therapy depends on the client’s goals. It may include exploring triggers and patterns of use. Identifying healthier coping strategies is important. Setting achievable steps toward change helps clients. This strengthens their motivation for change. Clients learn to challenge unhelpful thought patterns. They develop practical skills to manage cravings or prevent relapse.

Throughout the process, I respect the client’s pace and autonomy, emphasising harm reduction or abstinence based on their needs. The aim is to support clients in gaining control over their substance use and fostering a healthier, more fulfilling life.

What ever issue that brings you to my door, you will be treated with respect, fairness and compassion.
